The team behind Pom Friterie experimented with different recipes and techniques for three years before they were satisfied – talk about high standards. The result is fresh, organic, hand-cut French fries served with toppings and sides influenced by food cultures all around the world. Despite the restaurant's pretty luxurious feel, they have – in true fast food spirit – kept prices wallet-friendly.

This family-owned neighbourhood restaurant in Birkastan has something to suit all occasions and tastebuds. Expect Swedish homecooking classics and slightly more continental flavours at wallet-friendly prices - everything from Toast Skagen to meatballs, pasta and grilled meat dishes.

Sheraton offers an elegant dining experience with Scandinavian flavours, but at a price that's more affordable than many other restaurants with the same level of ambition. The menu is crafted by acclaimed chef Pontus Wellén, and focuses on seasonal vegetables with meat, fish, and poultry as complements. The whole experience is framed by stylish interiors and a view over Stockholm's waters.

If your budget won't stretch to a trip to Spain, head to Spanjorskan, where you'll be taken on a culinary journey that will leave your stomach full and your wallet intact. At Tony's, the focus is on fast food at a fair price – but of a higher quality than you might expect from a so-called fast food joint. The menu features pizza made on sourdough bases, nutrient-packed salads, and a couple of pasta dishes. You can also create your own salad from fresh ingredients at the salad bar. Dine in or take away.

Cliff Barnes on Odenplan has been a mood booster since 1995. Enjoy food and drinks accompanied by hits, sing-alongs, and dancing. The menu includes options such as the Reuben sandwich and other hearty dishes at reasonable prices.

On Tulegatan, you'll find Cliff Barnes' sister restaurant, named after a decadent housewife from the TV series Dallas, but despite the name, this is a place that works just as well for in-laws as it does for friends. One of the best things about tapas, apart from the fact that it's tasty and sociable of course, is that it's easy to control the price of the dinner. If you're not that hungry, you don't need to order a full slap-up meal, but if you're very hungry, there's plenty to choose from in different price ranges. The Spanish classics are joined by flavours from both Latin America and the Mediterranean area.

At Shanti Touch of Bengal on Rörstrandsgatan, authentic Bengali and Indian home-cooked dishes are served in a vibrant bazaar setting. The restaurant, which has been named Europe's best Bengali eatery, offers lunch, dinner, brunch and post-work drinks with a wide range of vegetarian options, as well as fish, seafood, chicken, and lamb curries. The focus is on low fat cuisine, where butter and cream are replaced with coconut cream. Takeaway is available for those who wish to enjoy the award-winning flavours at home.

Nya Carnegiebryggeriet consists of a restaurant, bar and - not least - a brewery under one roof in Hammarby sjöstad. Not surprisingly, beer takes centre stage, and the food menu has been designed to pair perfectly with the drinks. Choose from comfort food that marries perfectly with the amber nectar.

Burritos 'Mission-style' can be characterised by their generous size, but at The Good Gringo, the wraps are served at a much lower price. You can also opt for bowls if preferred – either way, you can expect fresh ingredients and lots of flavour.

Hellstens Glashus's industrial premises serve up authentic New York vibes – minus the expensive trip across the Atlantic. In the restaurant, you can enjoy a well-prepared meal with a starter, main course, and dessert, without having to empty your entire wallet. The flavours draw inspiration from both Europe and the rest of the world, and the whole experience is framed by exposed brick walls, carefully selected furniture, and a ceiling height of seven metres.

Tre Vänner aims to offer well-prepared bistro food in friendly surroundings without breaking the bank for their guests – something that may be one of the main reasons the gastropub has built a solid base of regulars over the years. Choose from burgers, meatballs, and other hearty dishes, which can be happily washed down with a beer or two.

Hawaii Poké was among the first to serve poké bowls in Stockholm and now they're found all over the city. As well as poké bowls with a choice of protein, the menu also includes smoothies and acai bowls, all made with select ingredients. Enjoy in the tropical surroundings or order take away.

If you're looking for an unpretentious atmosphere, an authentic local feel and homecooking classics, Harvest Home should do the trick. The menu includes Mediterranean-influenced dishes at reasonable prices, including vegetarian and vegan options.

After putting Farsta on the burger map, Bun Meat Bun opened up in Söderhallarna food halls right in the centre of Medborgarplatsen. You can enjoy their famous burgers, made according to the "smash technique" (for the best possible burger surface texture), served between fluffy potato bread buns. A favourite among burger aficionados.

K25 is a modern food court where you can eat lunch and dinner or order take away. You can pick and choose food from several of the world's different cuisines here, from burgers to sushi. The atmosphere is lively and the prices are decent.

Cosy Fondueboden in Vasastan looks just like an alpine chalet in the mountains of Switzerland, and it has done since the Nineties. Gather your friends and family over steaming hot fondue pots and make your own meat, fish or cheese fondue at your table - plenty of food and fun for your money.

Everyone's welcome at Noorm, regardless of the thickness of their wallet, just as it should be in a classic neighbourhood restaurant. As well as small and large dishes from all corners of the world, they serve a traditional Swedish dish each week at a fair price. And if you want a really good deal, check out their '150-lappen' deal – a well-cooked dish for 150 SEK, which is served at the bar from Tuesday to Thursday.

Paraden is housed in a former 1930s cinema, a charming neighbourhood restaurant in Gärdet serving a good-value menu with southern European influences. The atmosphere is always buzzy and you can drop by for weekend brunch, lunch and dinner.

Over the past few years some ambitious pizzerias have opened, not just when it comes to the pizzas themselves but the entire experience. These restaurants may not be particularly cheap in pizzeria terms, but compared to ordinary restaurants you can have a really reasonable meal at these places.
